A NEW CONCEPT

Taher is pushing the limits of his practice by exploring the multi-dimensional rendition of an existing artwork. Based on his engineering background, he sees 3D printing as a potential new medium and a trend in contemporary art.

“ A Can opener for Penguins” sculpture is Taher’s first foray into that field.

The sculpture is inspired by the 2019 painting of the same title, part of a private collection.

ABOUT THE PROCESS

Jaoui had to face the challenge of translating the energy, forms and lines of his painting into 3D representations. Working with his team, he created the required shapes with a 3D printer and was constrained by the limited size the printer can generate. The sculpture was created in smaller segments which were then hand mounted using glue and connectors.
